Velcro patches
A custom Velcro patch is not a separate construction. It is an embroidered, woven or PVC patch with the hook side fitted to the back, supplied with the matching loop panel for the garment. The patch is the easy half. The loop panel is the half that decides whether it lasts.

What’s included when you order custom Velcro patches?
Every Velcro order ships as a pair. The hook face — stiff, moulded, plastic to the touch — is fitted to the back of your patch before it leaves us. The loop face — soft and fuzzy — comes as a separate panel cut about a quarter of an inch larger than the patch on every side, ready to be sewn to the garment.
That second panel is the part most people skip, and it is the part that fails. The loop panel takes every pull the patch will ever receive, so it is stitched down through all four sides. Adhesive does not hold it through a wash. Once it is on, patches swap in seconds and the garment is never pierced again.
How much do custom Velcro patches cost?
Velcro is priced as a standard backing, not an upgrade. An embroidered patch with hook and loop costs the same as the same patch with an iron-on back — from $0.75 a piece. Size is measured as the average of height and width, so a 3 by 5 inch patch is quoted as a 4 inch patch.
| Size | 50 pcs | 100 pcs | 300 pcs | 500 pcs | 1000 pcs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 inch | $2.95 | $1.85 | $1.10 | $0.95 | $0.75 |
| 2.5 inch | $3.45 | $2.15 | $1.35 | $1.15 | $0.90 |
| 3 inch | $3.95 | $2.55 | $1.60 | $1.35 | $1.05 |
| 3.5 inch | $4.65 | $2.95 | $1.90 | $1.60 | $1.25 |
| 4 inch | $5.35 | $3.45 | $2.25 | $1.90 | $1.55 |
| 4.5 inch | $6.15 | $3.95 | $2.65 | $2.25 | $1.85 |
Woven, PVC and leather faces take a hook backing too, at those constructions’ own rates — woven from $0.95, PVC from $1.85, leather from $1.95. Full coverage embroidery adds 15%, as it does on any patch.
What Velcro is right for
The case for hook and loop is always the same: the patch has to come off, or the garment has to carry more than one patch over its life. If neither is true, a sew-on back is cheaper and stronger.
- Tactical and service kit — plate carriers, duty shirts and field jackets already carry loop panels, so the patch only needs the hook half.
- Unit and ID panels — name tapes, blood types, flags and call signs that change with posting or role.
- Morale patches — the whole point is rotating them, and a collection shares one panel.
- Backpacks and packs — a loop panel or a MOLLE grid lets a coated nylon pack take patches that heat would ruin.
- Workwear across shifts — one garment, different names or departments, no unpicking.
Where it is the wrong choice: anything thin or stretchy, where a stitched panel puckers the fabric, and anything that will be worn once. The hook face is also abrasive — keep it away from knitwear and fleece it will share a wash with.

| Where it goes | What people order | See also |
|---|---|---|
| Jackets and work shirts | Logo and name patches on a sleeve or chest loop panel | Custom name patches |
| Plate carriers and tactical gear | Morale patches, flags, callsigns, blood-type patches | Custom morale patches |
| Backpacks and bags | Logo, team and morale patches on the bag’s loop panel | Velcro patches for backpacks |
| Caps | A 2 × 3 in patch on an operator cap’s front loop panel | Custom hat patches |
| Uniforms that change roles | Rank, role and unit patches that swap between garments | Name tapes |
Logo Velcro patches
A logo on a hook-backed patch is the easiest way to brand kit you cannot embroider directly — bags, technical jackets, helmets and equipment cases. Embroidered logo patches start at $0.75 and PVC at $1.85, with the hook side included at no extra cost.
Velcro for patches: hook and loop supplied
Every Velcro patch leaves us with the hook half already sewn to its back, so it is ready for any standard loop field on tactical jackets, bags, caps and plate carriers. For garments without a loop field, matching loop panels can be added to the order and sewn on once; after that the patches swap freely. If you only need to add Velcro to patches you already have, see how to sew on a Velcro patch.
Personalized Velcro patches
Personalized Velcro patches carry something specific to one person or team: a name, a callsign, a unit, a blood type or a small logo. Each design is digitised once, so a run of 50 can mix several names at the same size and price. Send the list with your quote request and you get a free proof of every variation before anything is stitched.
Custom embroidered Velcro patches vs PVC Velcro patches
Embroidered Velcro patches (from $0.75) suit names, text and most logos, and have the familiar stitched look. PVC Velcro patches (from $1.85) are moulded rubber: fully waterproof, sharper on very small detail and the usual choice for tactical gear, morale patches and outdoor kit. Both come with the hook side sewn on and a loop panel available, so the patch fits any standard loop field.
What size Velcro patch do you need?
Measure the loop field on the gear first — the patch has to sit inside it with a little margin, or the stiff hook edge overhangs and catches. These are the sizes people order most for each spot. Prices are for an embroidered face with hook and loop backing, loop panel included.

What do you guarantee on every order?
These are the terms every order is made under — the same ones written in our order terms, not a sales promise.
- Free proof, usually the same working day. It shows size, thread colours, border and backing.
- Unlimited free changes. Ask for as many proof revisions as you need.
- Nothing is made until you approve it in writing. You can cancel free of charge at any point before approval.
- Remade at our cost if it does not match the proof. Tell us within 14 days of delivery with photos and we cover the remake and the return shipping on our errors.
- No setup or digitizing fees. Redrawing and digitizing your artwork is part of the price.
- Free tracked shipping worldwide.
Honest limits: thread is matched as closely as thread allows, so a small shift against a printed Pantone chip is normal, and very fine detail is flagged on the proof before you approve it.

Common questions
What is a Velcro patch?
A Velcro patch is an embroidered, woven or PVC patch with the hook half of a hook-and-loop fastener sewn to its back. It presses onto a matching loop panel on a jacket, bag, cap or plate carrier and pulls off again, so one garment can wear different patches and one patch can move between garments. More in what a Velcro patch is and how to fit one.
Is a Velcro patch the same as a hook-and-loop patch?
Yes. Velcro is a brand name that became the everyday word for the fastening; hook-and-loop is the generic term the trade and the military use. Same product, and we quote either way.
Which half goes on the patch?
The hook, always. It is the stiff, scratchy half. The soft loop panel belongs on the garment, because it is the half that stays put and it is far kinder against skin and against whatever the garment is packed with.
Do I need the loop panel if my jacket already has one?
No. Most tactical and duty garments ship with loop panels already fitted, so tell us at quote stage and we will supply hook-backed patches only. It costs the same either way, but you will not end up with panels you have no use for.
Can the loop panel be ironed or glued on instead?
It can be tacked in place that way, but it will not stay. The panel carries the load every time a patch is pulled off, and adhesive gives up long before the stitching would. Sew it through all four sides.
Will it survive a wash?
Remove the patch first and close the panel against itself or a spare patch, so the hook face does not collect lint and catch on the rest of the load. Wash cool and inside out. Done that way, both halves outlast the garment.
What is a hook backing patch?
It is another name for a Velcro patch: a patch with the hook side of a hook-and-loop fastener on its back. “Hook fastener patch” and “hook patch” mean the same thing. The matching loop side goes on the garment.
Can I get custom Velcro name patches?
Yes — name tapes and name patches with hook backing are one of the most common orders. See custom name patches.
Can you make custom embroidered Velcro patches?
Yes. We make them with an embroidered face with the hook side fitted and a matching loop panel included, from $0.75 a patch at 1,000 pieces. Woven, PVC and leather faces take a hook backing too.
Are hook and loop patches the same as Velcro patches?
Yes. Velcro is a brand name; “hook and loop” is the generic name for the same fastener. Our custom hook and loop patches have the hook side fitted to the patch and come with the matching loop panel for the garment, at the same price as sew-on or iron-on.
