Custom Adhesive Patches

Adhesive patches

An adhesive patch — peel-and-stick, or sticky-back — is a cloth patch with a pressure-sensitive glue layer under a release paper. Peel the paper, press the patch on, done. No iron, no needle. The trade-off is simple: it is the fastest backing to apply and the least permanent, so it suits a day, an event or a hard surface, not a garment that goes in the wash.

Where peel-and-stick patches work

Where it will let you down

Be clear about the limits before you order. A pressure-sensitive adhesive is not a heat-seal film and it is not stitching:

  • Washing. An adhesive patch will not survive a washing machine. If the garment gets washed, choose sew-on or iron-on.
  • Textured or fluffy fabric. Fleece, knit and terry give the glue too little contact. Smooth, tight weaves hold best.
  • Months of wear. Edges lift with flexing. For anything longer-term, stitch round the edge or choose another backing.

Our patch types page sets the six backings we fit side by side, and glue for patches explains when a separate fabric glue does better than a factory adhesive.

Looking for a repair patch?

Some people searching for an adhesive cloth patch need to mend a tear in a down jacket or a tent rather than carry a logo. That is a different product: a thin nylon or polyester repair tape sold by the roll. We make decorative and branded patches. If you want a logo that also covers a tear, a sew-on or iron-on patch does both jobs and stays on.

Common questions

Do adhesive patches stay on clothes?

For a day or an event, yes. Through washing or months of wear, no. For clothes that get washed, choose sew-on or iron-on.

Can you wash a peel-and-stick patch?

No. Water and agitation release a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Remove it before washing.

Can an adhesive patch be sewn on later?

Yes. Stitch round the edge and it becomes as permanent as a sew-on patch. The glue layer makes the needle a little stiffer.

How much do custom adhesive patches cost?

The patch follows our embroidered grid, from $0.75 at volume. The peel-and-stick backing is confirmed on the free quote, so you see the full price before you approve anything.

What is the minimum order?

50 pieces per design.
