About Sew What Embroidery Designs

We make custom patches to order — and we publish the measurements, so you know what you are asking for before you order it.

How the guides are written

Every placement guide cites the publication that governs it and the date it was last checked. Regulations change; a guide that does not tell you when it was verified is not a reference, it is a guess. Where no regulation exists — most commercial and club placement — the guides give the conventional ranges used in the decorated-apparel trade and say so plainly.

Diagrams are drawn to scale and are free to print. If you spot an error, say so and it will be corrected and dated.

Who runs it

Sew What Embroidery Designs makes custom embroidered, chenille, woven, leather and PVC patches, keychains and decorated apparel to order, and digitizes artwork for embroidery in-house. We publish the guides on this site because a customer who knows what to ask for gets a better patch — reading them is free and is not conditional on ordering anything.

What is here

Five sections, and an index of everything in them.

  • Placement — where a patch goes, measured from a named reference point rather than guessed by eye.
  • Patch types — how patches are made: constructions, borders, backings, thread coverage and sizes.
  • Application — attaching one so it stays attached, and which fabrics rule each method out.
  • Insignia — what badges mean, how the systems are structured, and who is entitled to wear what.
  • All guides — every article on the site, newest first.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, it should be fixed and the page re-dated. Regulated placement figures are the ones most likely to go out of date, because the publications behind them are revised without announcement — the Scouts BSA guide shows the format: the publication is named, the revision is named, and the date it was checked is on the page.

Where a source could not be verified, the page says so rather than filling the gap. The Army placement guide is deliberately short on numbers for exactly that reason.

If you have found one, say so: hello@sewwhatembroiderydesigns.com. Naming the page and giving the source that contradicts it is enough to act on; what to include is set out on the contact page.

About this domain

Please read

This domain previously belonged to an unrelated embroidery design business that closed in 2025. Sew What Embroidery Designs is not that business and is not affiliated with its former owner. We cannot help with orders, downloads, files or accounts from the previous site, and we have no forwarding address for it. If that is what you were looking for, we are sorry.

Trademarks

Organisational names, emblems and insignia referred to on this site belong to their respective owners. They are described here for identification and reference. Nothing on this site is an offer to reproduce a protected mark, and being able to read about a patch here does not mean you are entitled to wear or manufacture one.
