Laser Cut Box Templates

Laser cut box templates

We design custom laser cut box templates — finger joint boxes, tab-and-slot boxes, gift and jewelry boxes, living hinge boxes and press-fit organisers. Each template is drawn to your exact inside dimensions, material thickness and laser kerf, so the joints close snugly instead of rattling or refusing to fit.

A good laser cut box template fits your exact material thickness, not a generic setting. We design laser cut box templates, finger joint box SVGs and living hinge boxes that close square and fit snugly, in any size you need.

Why generic box generators fall short

Free box generators are a good start, but they assume a nominal thickness. Sheets sold as 3 mm often measure anywhere from 2.7 mm to 3.3 mm, and every laser burns away a slightly different width of material — the kerf. A box drawn for the wrong numbers either needs glue and clamps or will not go together at all. We draw yours to the numbers you measure.

What we need from you

  • Inside dimensions (length, width, height) — or the item that must fit inside
  • Material and measured thickness — calipers if you have them
  • Your kerf, or your laser and wattage so we can allow a typical value and suggest a test
  • Lid style and any dividers or compartments
  • Engraving or cut-out decoration on the panels

Kerf and fit

Kerf is the width of material the beam removes, usually a fraction of a millimetre. On a press-fit or finger joint box, that fraction is the difference between a joint that holds and one that falls apart. We offset joint geometry to your kerf and can include a small test strip, so you can check the fit with one quick cut before running the full box.

Beyond boxes

  • Desk organisers, drawer organisers and pen holders
  • Spice racks, recipe holders and kitchen organisers
  • Display stands, business card holders and menu holders
  • Product packaging and retail display stands
  • Trays, coaster holders and bottle carriers

Finger joint box SVG and parametric box designs

Finger joint boxes are the most common laser cut box template, but a finger joint box SVG only fits properly when the finger width and kerf match your sheet. Instead of a one-size laser cut box generator, we draw a parametric laser cut box to your inside or outside dimensions, with kerf-compensated laser cutting files for a tight, glue-free fit where possible.

Laser cut storage boxes, gift boxes and jewelry boxes

  • Laser cut gift box SVGs with engraved lids
  • Laser cut jewelry boxes and keepsake boxes with dividers
  • Laser cut storage box SVGs and drawer organisers
  • Laser cut packaging templates and product packaging for small businesses
  • Hinged boxes with a living hinge SVG lid or a pin hinge

Every box can carry an engraved name, logo or pattern, and we place the engraving so it stays clear of joints.

Living hinges, tabs and slots

Laser cut living hinge patterns let flat plywood bend around a curve, which is useful for rounded boxes, book covers and lamp shades. We match the hinge pattern to the bend radius and material. Laser cut files with tabs and slots, and interlocking plywood designs for trays, organisers and stands, follow the same kerf rules as our boxes.

Common questions

Do you design parametric box files?

Yes. We can deliver a set of sizes, or a design you can adjust, if you make the same box in several dimensions.

Can you add a logo or name to the lid?

Yes. Engraved or cut-out logos, names and patterns can go on any panel.

Will it work with acrylic?

Yes, but acrylic does not flex, so press-fit joints are drawn slightly looser than for wood.

Do you design boxes in metric and imperial sizes?

Yes. Give us inside dimensions in millimetres or inches and the sheet thickness you will cut.

Can the box be cut from acrylic?

Yes. Acrylic needs slightly different joint clearances, so tell us the material when you order.
